I’d love to do an Introduction to Mantrailing Workshop, but I have some questions!
-
Is my dog too young or too old?
Probably not! We take young dogs once they have had all their injections. Older dogs who come to us have often retired from Flyball or Agility. Mantrailing is low impact and doesn’t stress their joints. Disabled dogs are often able to play too - blind, deaf or three-legged dogs can Mantrail!
-
Do I need to be super fit, or run?
Absolutely not, I’m not very fit and I most definitely don’t run. One of the rules is – don’t run! You do need to be able to walk with your dog – speak to me if you have worries about mobility issues.
-
Do I need loads of equipment?
No! I will lend you a long line to start with, all you need is a harness that fits your dog. Get him/her used to wearing it beforehand if you don’t usually use a harness. The harness needs to have a Y shaped front with a strap that goes between the dog’s front legs, not the type that has a straight bar across the front (eg Julius K9). If you’re not sure – ask me!
-
My dog doesn't like other dogs, or has no recall - can we still come?
Not a problem! The dogs work one at a time. I have reactive dogs – I understand!
The dogs remain on lead or a long line at all times during all sessions.
-
What happens while the other dogs are working?
Your dog needs to be able to wait safely in your vehicle. Vehicles are not left unattended. Everyone takes turns at being the Trail Layer (hidden person). If your dog can’t be left alone in the vehicle, this is where bringing a helper comes in.
-
How many dogs and handlers are there on the Workshop?
On your workshop there will be a maximum of four dogs with their handlers. Handlers may bring another adult to help them. Junior (14+) handlers by prior arrangement only.
